Why Peep exists
Bringing quality coding back.
Our mission is to make software that is fast, light and a pleasure to use, designed and built by people who use it every day.
Support Peep
Free to use. Kept alive by people who use it.
Peep is free, and it will stay free with no ads and no catch. Donations pay for the things that keep it independent: hosting for peep.moe and the demo, testing on real hardware, and the time to build what's next, like apps for more platforms.
Any amount helps, and so does telling someone who's fed up with their mail app.
It came from a need
Peep didn't come from thin air
Somewhere along the way, software got heavier and worse at the same time. Programs need more memory and more processor every year to do the same jobs they did a decade ago. Webmail takes seconds to open a single message. Desktop mail apps freeze while they sync. Simple tasks are buried three menus deep.
A lot of it comes down to one thing: the people making the software don't use it. When designers don't live in their own product, nobody notices the lag. When developers don't depend on what they ship, the bloat just keeps piling up.
Peep started as a fix for one person's inbox, built to be used every day by the person building it. Every slow screen got made fast, and every extra click got cut. What came out the other side is the mail suite we wanted and couldn't find.
What we hold to
How Peep is built
We use it every day
Peep is built by someone who reads his own mail in it, every day, on the web and on Windows. When something is slow or awkward, the person who can fix it is the one who feels it first.
Fast is a feature
Opening a message should be instant. Peep for Windows is one small native program with no browser engine and no runtimes underneath it. Peep Web is plain PHP and JavaScript with no frameworks and no build step.
Nothing you didn't ask for
No ads, no tracking, no account with us and nothing reporting back. Every feature has to earn its place, and the ones that don't, don't ship.
Designed for reading
Mail is mostly reading. Peep spends its effort there: clear type, layouts that stay put, and keyboard shortcuts for everything you do more than once.
Your mail is yours
Peep runs on your own server and your own PC. Your mail stays with your providers, and your passwords never leave the machine you trust with them.
